Terrigal, Australia
67-year-young surfer Phillip Worth was out for a surf two days before New Year’s Day when he lost his teeth in the ocean. He told reporters, “I was on my surfboard about 100 meters out and I sneezed, the next minute my top plate popped out and sank.” What he’s referring to are his dentures. They popped right out of his mouth and sunk to the bottom of the sea.
He didn’t know how deep the water was so he had no idea how far down his teeth had sunk. Mr. Worth woefully paddled back to the beach, wondering how he was going to be able to partake in the usual foods served in the day of the new year. But his luck was about to change.
The very next day, about 26 hours later, Mr. Worth decided to take a walk along the beach, hoping he would actually find his false teeth. The shocking part is that he did find them, rolling right in with the tide.
“I suddenly saw my teeth wash in with the tide, and then go out again.
“A woman was standing close by and I said ‘excuse me miss, I think those are my teeth’. She said, ‘I think you’re right’.”
Then Mr. Worth picked his teeth up.
“I couldn’t believe it, it’s a trillion to one chance. It was the Tooth Fairy, I kid you not.”
Then, get this: Dumbfounded by his incredible luck, Mr. Worth went to a local store and bought a lottery ticket and immediately won $30.
It gets even better. The sea had washed his teeth clean and even sharpened them. “They’re sharper I noticed, truly,” he says.
He now keeps his $2,000 to $3,000 dentures at home when he’s out for a surf.
