Used surfboards are great for learning to surf, but most experienced surfers buy custom surfboards. They go to a local surfboard shaper and talk to them about what they want their board to be like. You can specify everything about it: the length, width, how much of a curve you want at the tip, how many fins you want it to have, how it’s cut in the back – everything.
Every beach town has its local surfboard shapers, and if you’re in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mike Doyle is the shaper you want making your custom surfboards.
Custom ordering a board built just for you is a wonderful process for the surfer who wants and expects a little more when the all important decision needs to be made on what you expect to get out of your first, or next surfboard. – Website of Custom Shaper, Mike Doyle
Mike will even fix you up with custom surfboard art.

You can view a LOT of pics of Mike’s surfboards by clicking here.

If you want the highest quality surfboard design, a board that’s made just for you in Corpus Christi, this is the guy who will be shaping your next surfboard.

This is just about all any of us can do on a surfboard this week, according to the forecast. But for this girl I’d say it’s plenty!
The good news is that the water is so clear, you can see anything that might bite. The other day a fish put my big toe all the way in its mouth! I have a tattoo of a fish right by that toe – I wonder if it thought it was real
Anyway, here’s some more surfer girls for ya.

This headline is a no-brainer but we’ve actually got a couple of body boarders on camera dealing with a wave much more powerful than they ever expected. Storms off the coast of Cornwall, UK created some unusually large waves for the area.
Imagine if you’d been standing on your surfboard and been blown out of the water like this. “So thisss is what it’s like to get air!” … Ha, no dude, this isn’t quite the same. These two guys got a good thrashing but they also came out with a cool story to tell.

Bethany Hamilton, a surfer who lost one of her arms during a shark attack in 2003, took Nick Vujicic surfing last August (2008). Nick was born without arms or legs. I found this story on Coastal Surfing, which is one of my favorite surfing blogs. Check it out to get more info on this story.

I’m not sure if anyone else can even do this, but Julian Wilson is definitely the first to be able to perform this complete roll through the air called the Sushi Roll. Julian rides for Quick Silver and lives in Australia. Check out this cool move.
